President Obama, prasies lawmakers at a news conference for living lame duck session that brings him significantly victories. He pledges to continue to push for passage of the Dream Act immigration reform. At a wednesday morning conference President Obama praised lawmakers for a spirit of bipartisanship that fueled what he called "the most productive post-election period we've had in decades." The lame-duck session was "a season of progress for American people. That's a message I will take to heart in the coming year," the president said. But the president acknowledge that he had not won everything he wanted.
Republicans and some key Democrats blocked passage of the Dream Act, designed to provide a path for citizenship for those illegal immigrants who came to the United States as youngsters and have moved on to college and the military.
Conservatives argued the Dream Act was the entry wedge into immigration reform, an issue that proved too contentious for this session of Congress.
