President Obama took action over the Weekend

Three things President Obama contributes to :

In an appeal for national unity and soul-searching after the Tucson shootings, President Barack Obama on Wednesday night urged Americans to "expand our moral imaginations" and "sharpen our instincts for empathy" — even with those who are political adversaries.
He spoke at at a memorial service for those killed in a weekend massacre that left Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., gravely wounded. The shooting also killed six people and wounded 13.

Obama is  gearing up to run for Democratic President once again in 2012, although a top Republican named Mitch McConnell has stated that his number one goal is to make Barack Obama a one-term president. He tried to take off his record of not traveling to foreign countries to get a better image for his 2010 run, so he decided to take a trip to Afghanistan in July 2008.
President Obama addressed the Tax Cuts and clarified that they do benefit small and large businesses and also tens of millions of families and workers, along with the economy.

Political battle on illegal immigration shifts to state - The New York Times

Legislative leaders in at least half a dozen states say they will propose bills similar to a controversial law to fight illegal immigration. The efforts, led by Republicans, are part of a wave of state measures coming this year aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration.  Legislators have also announced measures to limit access to public colleges and other benefits for illegal immigrants and to punish employers who hire them. five states plan to begin an unusual coordinated effort to cancel automatic United States citizenship for children born in this country to illegal immigrant parents.  Republicans, who will control the House of Representatives, do not support an overhaul of immigration laws that President Obama has promised to continue to push. State lawmakers say it has fallen to them to act. The Republican Party is divided between those who see that Hispanics are an essential constituency going forward, and those who don’t see that. These laws are creating resentment within the Latino community that is going to last for decades.
